Happy Leap Year!!!!

Question: As we mentioned yesterday, Grandpa D just celebrated a birthday! Had he been born a day later on a leap year, how old would he be now?

Answer: Spencer will help you figure it out. Since Grandpa celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday and leap years come once every 4 years........70 divided by 4 is.......

"It's a good thing your birthday was yesterday Grandpa......cuz I don't think anyone would believe you are only 17 1/2 years old!"

The Doctor's Visit!

When we got home from the doctor's office today, Spencer and his brother enjoyed some quality time hanging out in the living room together. At todays appointment, Spencer had another round of immunization shots but he was extremely brave and stopped crying the moment the nurse handed him back to Mommy. Here are the rest of the results from his 6 month well being check up. His last doctor appt was when he was four months old. Since then, his head circumference has grown from 41 1/2 (which was in the 30th percentile range) to 44 3/4 (which is in the 75th percentile range). He was 24 1/2 inch's tall (which was also in the 30th percentile range) and is now 27 1/4 inch's tall (which is also in the 75th percentile range). Two months ago he weighed 16 lbs 10 1/2 ounces (which was in the 85th percentile range). He currently weighs 21 lbs 2 ounces (which is in the 94th percentile range). Most importantly, Spencer is an all around happy and healthy little boy. In addition to growing like a weed, he is also hitting all of the development marks that the doctor would like to see him achieve by 6 months.
Also......HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Boppy!

Spencer pulled out his Boppy pillow today to help with his 'sitting upright by himself' balance. It was very helpful and he is getting better every time he tries is but he still has a way to go before he can sit up without any assistance.

Big Wheels Keep On Rollin'

Spencer has an amazing little grip (which is especially noticable when he latches onto your face, or neck, or hair!) Not only is he able to grab onto small toys, but he can also hold them for much longer periods of time while he plays with them.

And now that rolling over is so easy for him, I think he even considers tummy time to be somewhat enjoyable now!

Wake Up Call!

What does a guy have to do to get some peace and quiet when he's napping? When Mommy was putting some things back into Spencers room today, big brother Brian slipped into the room too. Apparently he decided that Spencer had been napping long enough so he slipped his hand under the bumper pad in order to get his attention. Whatever the reason, it worked and Spencer "decided" to wake up. It's a good thing that Spencer had a solid 2 hours of nap time under his belt when this happened!

Happy Birthday Krista!

Spencer's oldest cousin turned another year older as we celebrated her 8th birthday today! Spencer was a little disappointed that he didn't get to sample the cake himself, but at least he got to help sing along with cousins Haley and Erika!

What Is This?????

Up to this point, Spencer has pretty much been a formula only boy. He has sampled a little rice cereal in his bottle, but until today, he has never tried it from a spoon. Mommy and Daddy are anticipating that when we see the doctor next week for his 6 month well being checkup, he will probably be given the green light to start trying solid foods. In order for that to happen, he will need to be a little more familiar with a spoon and how it works. So, tonight he got his first taste of rice cereal mixed with formula and served a la spoon! I wouldn't say that his first go with a spoon was a huge success, but he was willing to try and we will give him many more opportunities to continue trying.

Overnight Adventure!

Spencer and his brother were lucky enough to get to have an overnight stay with Grandma and Grandpa last night! Spencer Paul stayed up talking things over with Grandpa Paul. We aren't sure, but between the two of them, their discussion probably solved most of the worlds problems!

I'm 6 Months Old!

Spencer goes to the doctor for his 6 month well being checkup next week so you will need to check back next Thursday for his current stats, height and weight. Today's picture just shows again that Spencer sure loves having a big brother! Whenever Brian is close by, Spencer's face lights up and he is filled with giggles and smiles. It's very cute to watch!

What Noise?

Spencer was in his exersaucer keeping Mommy company in the kitchen this evening. Mommy kept hearing a banging noise but everytime she turned and looked at Spencer, he was just looking back at her smiling.

A little while later she discovered what the noise was. Spencer somehow got a hold of his brother's pacifyer. Spencer doesn't use them - not for sucking purposes that is. He did find out that they make great noises when you bang them on the side of your exersaucer though!
PS: Moments after this picture was taken, Brian also discovered what was making the banging noises in the kitchen and Spencer suddenly lost his toy!

We Have Lift Off!!!

Spencer loves being in his exersaucer! At first, he seemed to just enjoy the view from a relatively new upright seated position. Soon he learned that he could reach out and grab all the cool toys that are now within his reach! Now, he has figured out that he can jump with his legs and get a great bounce going! It's BIG fun!!

Do It Like This!

Walter doesn't know how to roll over and since Spencer is an expert roll'er-over'er, he decided to give him an up close and personal demonstration! Unfortunately, Walter still doesn't know how to roll over - but he seemed to enjoy the lesson! Thank you Spencer!!!

Extreme Close Up!

Spencer is such a happy little guy! I'm sure all parents say that about their kids, but with him - it's really true! In case you question it, here is more photographic evidence for you to enjoy!

Adventures in Babysitting!

Mommy and Daddy were out last night so our good friends Diane and Jeff came over to spend the evening with Spencer and his big brother! Spencer had so much fun, he hasn't stopped smiling! Thank you again for coming over to play with me Diane and Jeff.....I hope we can do it again sometime very soon!

When Elephants Fly!

Now that Spencer's back and neck have gotten so strong, he spends much more time in his exersaucer or on the floor than he does in his pack & play. When he is in the pack & play though, he is very interested in the 3 little elephants that dangle above him. He reaches out and bats them around and sometimes gets a good enough grip to pull them down!

Happy Valentines Day!

Spencer sends lots of love and kiss's out to everyone and wish's you all a very Happy Valentine's Day!

Stop And Sit A While

Spencer is currently working on his sitting up skills. Having a pillow handy for some added support is very helpful in getting him off to a great start.

However, as he is a little top heavy.........well, you get the picture!

Grabby Hands!

Spencer has quite a grip! If he has ever gotten a hold of your glasses or a necklace you are wearing - you already know this! He is still working at being able to pick things up by himself, but if you hand him a toy or a rattle, he has no trouble latching on to it!

More Random Cuteness!

Someone must have flipped a switch in Spencer because all of the sudden, he acts like he actually enjoys his tummy time! It could have something to do with how strong his back and arms have gotten. He has no problem rolling over now. Mommy and Daddy wonder if he thinks he's playing some sort of a game because when he rolls over onto his back, he will look you in the eyes and giggle!

Grandpa's Here!

Grandma and Grandpa came over this afternoon so that Grandma and Daddy could work on a little project. This gave Spencer the opportunity to enjoy some quality Grandpa time - which he always enjoys!

Jokes On Daddy!

While Mommy was enjoying a "Mommy Day" (which is when Daddy stays home with the boys so Mommy can have an afternoon to herself to go do girl stuff), the boys played a joke on Daddy. When Daddy told the boys that he was going to do laundry, Spencer and his big brother Brian decided it would be fun to tell Daddy that the fastest way to get it all done would be to just toss EVERYTHING into the machine at once - shirts, pants, jammies, two little boys, socks, bibs, etc etc etc. They made some very good points and Daddy was just about to load Spencer in when they finally spoke up and said "No Daddy, we were just kidding!"

Let's Cheer Him On!

Break out your pom poms, Spencer is getting ready to do some rolling!

He's off to a good start......."Come on Spenc.....you can do it!!!"

This would probably be easier if he tucked that free arm in......."Your almost there kiddo!"

.......and there he goes - success!!! "Way to go Spencer! You are getting this whole rolling over thing down to a science! Before you know it, you will be doing the reverse roll over too - going from this position and rolling back to your tummy!"

Thursday, February 7, 2008

Hey Cuz!

While big brother Brian was taking his afternoon nap, cousin Erika came by for a visit. She couldn't stay long today so Spencer made the most of every minute he had to play with her!

Again???

Spencer is still not a huge fan of his tummy time, but since he isn't given much of a choice in the matter, he does it. It always starts out well......as shown in this picture. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end with the same smiling face. Our goal is for tummy time to last long enough for him to roll himself over onto his back a few times. He went through a period of time where he flat out refused to have anything to do with the whole rolling over business, but we are happy to report that he is back with the program now!

Super Tuesday!

Seeing all the political literature all over the place, Spencer has been very curious about the whole "Super Tuesday" business. Since our state is one that will go to the polls today, Spencer will get to see the political wheels in action first hand!

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!

A couple hours before the Super Bowl kick off yesterday, our neighborhood had a short power outage. We decided that we would use this time to run out and take care of some odds and ends. Can you guess which store we were at when this picture was taken?

If you guessed Lowes, you would be correct! How cool is this shopping cart????

Cute Cute Cute!

Before changing out of his church clothes, Spencer took a few minutes to pose for Mommy and, well, to just look cute in general. After a good power nap this afternoon, he is currently watching his first Super Bowl. Truth be told though, I think he's just watching it for the commercials!
***PS - Mommy takes full responsibility for Spencer's wardrobe choice today. Daddy is not a big fan of this sailor suit.....okay it's just the hat that he thinks puts it over the top, but what are ya gonna do?

Baby It's Cold Outside!

The snow started falling yesterday afternoon and it didn't stop until this morning! When it was all said and done, we had about 7 1/2 inch's of the white stuff. It didn't bother Spencer one bit though. While Daddy went to work to ensure that our sidewalks and driveway were snow free, Spencer was perfectly content to hang out in his pack & play. He kept his back to the window and appeared to be watching everything EXCEPT Daddy! This may have something to do with the fact that Spencer has been told more than once that as soon as he starts walking - shoveling snow will be one of HIS new responsibilities!
