By coincidence, we were a witness to history on our trip home. Fifty years ago last night Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson were performing in concert at the Surf Ballroom which is located in Clear Lake Iowa. After the concert, all three died in a plane crash. Since Clear Lake is only a few miles away from Uncle Dave and Aunt Karrie's house, we took a drive by the Surf on our way to their house. What a sight it was! Cars were parked bumper to bumper down every street surrounding the ballroom. Music fans from across the globe had come to town to take part in the events that were going on all week. This monument stands in front of the Surf Ballroom to remind everyone of the night the music died.

After hugs, kisses and lots of thank yous had been given to Uncle Dave and Aunt Karrie for welcoming us into their home again, we started out for home. It was really cold today but at least there was no snow and once again, the roads were all clear. We made a well needed stop at the Cedar Rapids mall to try out their children's play area. It was very similar to the one in the Sioux Falls mall even in that it was sponsored by the local hospital. That being said, it had a health theme. This slide that Spencer went down over and over was a big piece of broccoli (or bock-o-lee as Brian pronounces it.)

Just like in Sioux Falls, there were a few kiddie rides next to the play area. Mommy agreed that right before we left, the boys could go on one ride. They chose the merry go round again. I think the smiles speak for themselves!
