Strapped In!

"I thought I only had to be in this thing when we were in the car.......so what am I doing in it in the kitchen???? Daddy, get me out of this thing!!!!!!"

Somehow the straps of Spencer's car seat have gotten all twisted up. When Spencer and Daddy came home from running an errand today, he came inside - car seat and all! Now that his straps have been properly smoothed out, he will be a much more comfortable rider again!

Spencer also sends out HUGE birthday wishes and hugs to Grandpa today! Brace yourself Grandpa because we are coming over to your house tomorrow to celebrate with you in person!!!!!

Garbage Day!

Today was a bonus day for a couple reasons. For starters, Daddy was home today! Daddy probably wasn't quite as excited about this since he was home so that he could finish the clean up in our basement. It rained here a lot yesterday........so much so that some of that rain ended up in our basement. Our damage was very minimal compared to some of our neighbors but it's still no fun to have to clean up. In addition to Daddy being here, today was also garbage day! The boys love watching the big truck pull up in front of the house, especially when it lifts it's basket to empty it into the back of the truck!

Seeing Double!

Brian is an avid computer fan now which means.........so is Spencer! Unfortunately, Spencer finds all the buttons on the computer to be way to tempting and that makes things a little frustrating. Daddy had an idea that would allow both boys to use the computer while keeping the button pushing to a minimum. He hooked an extra monitor up to the laptop computer. Brian watches the screen on the laptop while Spencer uses the extra monitor. The monitor only has a couple buttons and the worst he can do by pushing those buttons is to turn off his screen. We are happy to report that for the most part, the two screen concept has been working very nicely!

The Polite Boys

Mommy and Daddy continue to be amazed and proud of what polite little boys Spencer and his brother are. While the boys were playing with their Mega Blocks this morning, Mommy overheard their conversation that went a little like this........

Spencer: (while handing a block to Brian) "here go" - which in Spencer means here you go.

Brian: (accepting the block) "thank you Pencer"

Spencer: (while handing another block to Brian) "here go"

Brian: (accepting the block) "thank you Pencer"

Spencer: (while handing another block to Brian) "here go"

Brian: (accepting the block) "thank you Pencer"

..........and so on and so on.........that is until they got tired of playing with the blocks and moved onto a different toy.

Happy Birthday Cuz!

"Happy Birthday to you......

Happy Birthday to you.....

Happy Birthday dear Krista......

Happy Birthday to you!!!!"

We hope you had a fabulous day and we are looking forward to celebrating your turning 9 by sharing a piece of birthday cake with you very soon!

Mmmmmmmm....Chicken......

How many chicken nuggets can you get into your mouth at once? According to Spencer.......one and a half! Spencer's appetite varies on a meal to meal basis. When he's not hungry he lets you know, but when he is - look out!

It's absolutely amazing that he is able to still chew with his mouth this full!

Pick A Hand.....Any Hand!

Spencer appears to favor using his right hand, but from time to time he is willing to experiment using his left hand too. Both boys are big fans of "drawing" so we usually break out the crayons and coloring books at some point nearly every day.

Brush-a-Brush-a-Brush!

Spencer hasn't had a great deal of interest in watching Brian brush his teeth..........that is, until tonight! Given the number of teeth Spencer now has, it's a good idea for him to begin getting into the habit of practicing some good dental hygiene anyway.

Brian gave him some tips, but for the most part, Spencer did an excellent job for his first time!

Lost and Found

Daddy: "Has anyone seen my car keys? I could have sworn I left them right here on the kitchen table - but they have disappeared!"

Meanwhile, out in the living room sits a very innocent looking Spencer.........with a set of lost keys!

Tool Of The Day! Exciting Conclusion!

When we last left the boy's they were contemplating using the tool of the day to get the crackers....................

Brian: "These are great crackers! "

Spencer: "Yes they are! Hey, I think I hear Mommy coming!!"

Let Me Entertain You!

Watching Daddy provide mealtime entertainment always puts a smile on Spencer's face! Daddy has added some new stuff to his always entertaining shows. In addition to a variety of dance steps, he also does some juggling.......potatoes are a favorite with the boys and are often requested!

Climb Aboard!

Spencer is leaning towards just taking one afternoon nap a day. Mommy still gives him the opportunity to take a morning nap every day. When he is against the idea, he goes into Brian's room to play with his big brother. Since the boys play together so well, Mommy uses this time to get a few things done around the house. When she peeked in on them, this is what she saw. Spencer (aka: Mr. I'll Climb Anything) was perched on the play kitchen sink.

Mommy suggested to him (while physically removing him) that he get down. He did get off the sink........instead he moved over to the other side of the toy kitchen! We are taking bets on how long it will be before Spencer gets his first stitches!

Stack It Up!

The boys got a surprise this afternoon when their cousins came over for a short visit today. They only got to stay long enough for Daddy to give Uncle Kevin a ride to the shop so that he could drop his car off for some repairs, but it was long enough to still have some fun! Brian and Spencer were upset when the girls had to go home but once they found out that are coming back tomorrow and will be able to play longer then - everything was good again!

Read Me A Story Please!

We went over to Grandma and Grandpa's house today for an afternoon of fun! Uncle Kevin, Aunt June, Krista and Erika were already there so the boys started playing the moment their feet hit Grandma and Grandpa's back door! After we had a very yummy dinner and everyone was played out, we made our way back home. With his jammies on and a sippy cup of water in hand, Spencer was ready to have some books read to him so that he could hit the hay!

Be My Valentine!

Who needs flowers and chocolates when you have........valentine cupcakes?!?!?!?! Mommy made a batch today and Spencer (as well as the rest of his family) enjoyed eating them up!

Taxi!

Yesterday Spencer and Brian were playing together in the living room while Mommy quietly sat back watching and enjoying how well they play together. First they took the wagon filled with Mega Blocks and dumped them all out onto the floor. Next, without any prompting, Spencer crawled into the wagon. Brian immediately took the handle and to Spencer's great delight, he started pulling his little brother around the room. Mommy watched as Brian pulled the Spencer filled wagon into his bedroom and then stopped. Spencer must have sensed that his turn was over because he got out of the wagon and without saying a word, Brian got in. Spencer picked up the handle.

After holding it for a few seconds, he decided he was done with that game because he dropped it and headed over to get some books from the bookshelf instead!

HAPPY 200th BIRTHDAY PRESIDENT LINCOLN!!!

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Timmmmmmm-Berrrrrrrrrrr

After last nights baths, the boys had some excess energy they needed to burn off. Fortunately they are able to make a jungle gym out of just about anything. Tonight's toy of choice was the Thomas the Train sofa. First it needs to be tipped over.........

.......then they run around behind it and lean in.........

.......until they roll forward enough to tip the sofa over and they flop out onto the floor! The giggles and laughter can be heard all the while they run around behind the sofa, tip it up and start the whole process all over again!

Cash or Credit?

This toy cash register has been a wonderful addition to our growing toy collection. If Brian isn't playing with it.......Spencer is!

My Fellow Americans.....

Apparently the boy's time at the South Dakota state capital had an impact on them! When the President gave his speech tonight, Spencer and his brother were front and center.....for a couple minutes anyway!

Hide & Seek!

Recently, Daddy and the boys have started playing some games of Hide & Seek. It goes a little like this.

Daddy: Okay boys, I'm going to go hide and then you come and look for me.

Boys: Okay Daddy.

*While Daddy makes a hasty exit to another room, the boys IMMEDIATELY take off chasing after him. Spencer sometimes gets lost in the shuffle so today, Daddy AND Spencer raced off to hide (with Spencer laughing all the way) and Brian in hot pursuit!

Cooking Class

While we were visiting in Iowa, Uncle Dave and Aunt Karrie had some play food that the boys had a lot of fun playing with. When Uncle Kevin and Aunt June loaned us their toy kitchen, they told us to let them know when we were ready for the play food to go with it. Daddy talked to Aunt June today and told her that we are ready! Spencer wasted no time getting to work on his culinary skills!

Afternoon Play Date

The boys had a real treat today! Not only did Grandma come over, but she brought Haley with her! After Haley and the boys had played with a variety of toys, we decided that it was time to break out the trains! Haley thought the whole train idea was pretty cool........

.....until Spencer (aka: Godzilla) started trying to dismantle the track!

Masked Man!

Who is the mystery man behind that train box mask?????

It's Spencer Paul! We had a box of additional Thomas the Train track that we hadn't used - until today that is!

SD Memories

We arrived at home safe and sound last night and it was great seeing Daddy again! Here are a few more pictures from our South Dakota trip!

Spencer wanted to get a toy out of the toy box. When he couldn't reach it, he decided to go after it by just crawling completely INTO the toy box himself!

After practicing the piano with Grandpa, there is nothing better than snacking on some raisins!

Clearly Spencer is brilliant. Not only can he read, he can read books upside down too!

Road Trip - Day 9!

By coincidence, we were a witness to history on our trip home. Fifty years ago last night Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson were performing in concert at the Surf Ballroom which is located in Clear Lake Iowa. After the concert, all three died in a plane crash. Since Clear Lake is only a few miles away from Uncle Dave and Aunt Karrie's house, we took a drive by the Surf on our way to their house. What a sight it was! Cars were parked bumper to bumper down every street surrounding the ballroom. Music fans from across the globe had come to town to take part in the events that were going on all week. This monument stands in front of the Surf Ballroom to remind everyone of the night the music died.

After hugs, kisses and lots of thank yous had been given to Uncle Dave and Aunt Karrie for welcoming us into their home again, we started out for home. It was really cold today but at least there was no snow and once again, the roads were all clear. We made a well needed stop at the Cedar Rapids mall to try out their children's play area. It was very similar to the one in the Sioux Falls mall even in that it was sponsored by the local hospital. That being said, it had a health theme. This slide that Spencer went down over and over was a big piece of broccoli (or bock-o-lee as Brian pronounces it.)

Just like in Sioux Falls, there were a few kiddie rides next to the play area. Mommy agreed that right before we left, the boys could go on one ride. They chose the merry go round again. I think the smiles speak for themselves!

Road Trip - Day 8!

It's always hard to say goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa, but it was time for us to start our drive back home to Illinois today. Thank you again for everything - we all had a great time and can't wait to see you again!

We got on the road mid morning and were passing the Spencer South Dakota exit about an hour later. I'm sure that our Spencer will have fun in the coming years knowing that there is a town named after him! At least, that is how Spencer's Mommy and Daddy will describe to him how the town of Spencer got it's name.

After a stop in Sioux Falls for lunch and some playtime at the mall, it was on to Aunt Karrie and Uncle Dave's house in Mason City Iowa. Since he was caught red handed, Spencer would like to apologize to both Aunt Karrie and Uncle Dave since I'm sure they needed to reboot their computer after a certain young man found it's power button and proceeded to turn if on and off and on and off.

Road Trip - Day 7!

Grandpa plays the organ at church so you know what that means........yup......the boys entertained us all with a duet (after the service of course!)

After lunch, Grandpa and the boys walked down to Great Grandma's apartment for another visit. Knowing that the boys would be getting tired, Mommy and Grandma drove the van over a little while later so that it would be ready for our return trip. Gram is an excellent story teller, as Spencer witnessed first hand!

Gram had the boys in hysterical laughter when she showed them how to play "Peas, Porridge Hot; Peas, Porridge Cold"!

The Super Bowl didn't hold a lot of interest for the boys this year, but "Puppy Bowl 4" which was on the Animal Planet channel sure did!
